Tips and Tricks
To ensure a successful mushroom harvest, paying attention to humidity, light, and the harvesting process is crucial. Here's a simplified guide to get you started. Firstly, humidity plays a pivotal role in mushroom cultivation. Mushrooms thrive in moist environments, so maintaining a high level of humidity is essential. This can often be achieved by placing it near a humidifier or under a plastic cover with holes punched in it for airflow. Mist the inside of the tent or bag with water regularly to keep the environment moist. When it comes to light, mushrooms have different needs compared to typical plants. They do not require sunlight to grow and can even be adversely affected by direct exposure. However, they do need some light (indirect sunlight or artificial light) to guide their growth. A simple rule is to place them in an area that receives ambient natural light or under a soft artificial light for a few hours each day. This helps the mushrooms know which direction to grow but doesn't overwhelm them. Harvesting mushrooms at the right time is key to enjoying their full flavor and texture. Most mushrooms are ready to harvest while their caps are still turned down and not flat. You can harvest them at your desired shape or size, but do not wait too long. Gently twist and pull the mushroom from its base; avoid pulling too hard to prevent damage. It's important to harvest them promptly, as leaving them to grow too large can affect both their taste and the potential yield of subsequent flushes. Once your block is finished, break it up and add to your garden compost! Happy Growing!
